      Before reaching Porto, we stop for a comfort stop and a quick Coffee Break.

      Leaving earlier Lisbon ( 8:00 AM ) then we take the highway towards ( North ) to Porto the second major city in Portugal, the city that the Romans gave the name of "Portocale".

      When the Roman Empire start to decline the Moors occupied it in the early 8th Century till 982 when the city was captured in the name of the Christian.

      But Porto is not just that, is much more, Porto is one of Europe's most charismatic cities has carefully preserved its architectonic treasures.

      This main Avenue, Avenida dos Aliados, this wide avenue is the heart of Porto with the Camara Municipal (Town Hall) on top

  stop  Porto - Free time for lunch near Douro river ( Ribeira ), to taste Porto gastronomy, like, tripe 'à moda do Porto or ( Francessinhas ).

  stop  and Visit : Porto Wine Cellars and taste the famous Porto Wine

 

      Port Wine  is produced from grapes grown and processed in the Douro region, but the wine is stored, aged in barrels and stored in caves ( Portuguese meaning "cellars" ) as is the case in Vila Nova de Gaia, before being bottled, and you will visit this Cellars.

stop  and Visit : Train Station of Sao Bento

 

      Porto Main Train Station, more than 20,000 azulejos ( Tiles ).

  stop  and Visit : Torre dos Clérigos

      A notable tower with outstanding views, also the symbol of Porto dating back to the 18th century.

  stop  and Visit : Lello bookshop

      With a neo-gothic façade interesting decoration inside.

  stop and Visit : Praça (square) da Batalha

      Batalha square, one of the main squares in Porto is near to popular attractions like the University of.

  stop and Visit : Porto Cathedral

 

      The 12th-century Porto Cathedral, also the Episcopal palace - resembles a fortress and enjoys a peak location from where you can get an amazing view of the Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia.

  stop  and Visit : Exchange Stock Market Palace - Palacio da Bolsa

 

      Palacio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Market) is a fine example of 19th century architecture with the famous Arabic Room highlighting a laminate gold decorations.

  stop  and Visit : Church of S. Francisco and Caves

 

      The Church was constructed in the 13th Century and just celebrated 1 mass inside, in our days you can appreciate the Roman and Gothic styles of the church as well as exuberant stunning gilt wood work in the interior.

  stop  and Visit : Dom Luis I Bridge

      The Dom Luis I Bridge dating back to the 19th century is on two levels, the lower part connects the Ribeira district bank with the area of the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and is in Gaia that you go to discover the enigmas of Port wine, and there you cam choose because is more than 50 wine companies spread out on the river bank.

On the way back to Lisbon, we can do a Comfort Stop at Fatima for a Coffee or Visit the Shrine.
